How to Properly Maintain Your Car After Ceramic Coating

How to Properly Maintain Your Car After Ceramic Coating

Congratulations! You've applied a ceramic coating to your car — which means you've protected the paintwork from dirt, UV rays, harsh chemicals, and microdamage. However, to make the effect last for years, proper maintenance is essential.

In this article, we’ll explain what you can, should, and must not do after applying ceramic coating, as well as which products help preserve its properties for as long as possible.

The first 24–72 hours — the most important stage

After application, the coating begins to cure, meaning it hardens and bonds with the paint. During this period:

  • Do not touch the surface
  • Do not wash the car
  • Do not allow water, rain, or condensation to come into contact
  • Do not drive in heavy dust or dirt

If water gets on it — blot gently with a soft microfiber, do not rub.

First wash — only after 7–10 days

Even if the car looks dirty — don’t wash it earlier. Ideally, wait 7 days, or better yet 10, to allow the coating to fully cure.

How to wash a ceramic-coated car properly

Hand washing is the best option. Automatic washes with hard brushes can damage the coating.

It is recommended to:

  • Use a pH-neutral shampoo, such as Foam Decon
  • Wash using the two-bucket method
  • Wipe with a clean microfiber (e.g., Edgeless Super Plush)
  • Do not wash under direct sunlight
  • Always dry thoroughly to prevent water spots

Additional protection — hydrophobic boosters

Want to extend the life of your ceramic coating? Use special reinforcing products every 2–3 months:

They enhance the water-repellent effect, shine, and resistance to dirt.

What not to do

  • Abrasive compounds, polishing, or harsh cleaning agents
  • Rough sponges, brushes, and dirty cloths
  • Washing with alkaline or acidic cleaners not intended for ceramics
  • Ignoring bird droppings, tar, and insect residues — they should be removed immediately!

Regular care = long ceramic life

What to do? How often?
Hand wash Every 2–3 weeks
Apply ceramic booster Every 2–3 months
Remove aggressive contaminants As soon as noticed
Re-coat or refresh ceramic layer Every 2–5 years
